Starganauts Character Interview: Sam

Starganauts Character Interview: Sam

We're back with PART 2 of the Starganauts launch post, and that means that it's time to start the character interviews! Without further ado, let me introduce you to...

SAMANTHA HARRIS

● Name

Samantha Harris

● Age

A prophetess never tells her age! 😉

● What did you do before the events of the story?

Goodness! I was a structural engineer at a big firm before I found Jesus. God called me to be His prophetess, showing me that Earth would be incinerated in the future. So, I worked as hard as I could, saved up money, then quit my job to preach of Earth’s coming doom on the street corners. Not exactly glamorous, but who said following God is easy?

● What is the most important lesson you learned during the events that you can share— without spoilers!

I really need to work on surrendering my will to God, and giving Him the wheel! I know I’m type-A, and honestly, I’m often right. But I have to remember that He’s the one calling the shots, not me. It’s His words I’m called to preach…and it’s so humbling and frustrating!

● Who is the person you are closest to on the team?

My cousin Matt. He’s really more like my brother than my primo. I wish he talked a bit more, but if you’re ever in a hard scrape, he’s the guy to have! I also admire him for his faith. He’s the one who would argue with me about God but also demonstrate Christ’s love with how he lived. I credit him as the biggest reason I became a believer.

● How would you describe yourself?

Confident. Bold. Wise. Accomplished. Talented. Judgmental. Controlling. Domineering. Impatient. Yeah, that pretty much sums me up! Lol!

● What is your position on the team?

I’m the leader of the Starganauts and also their spiritual advisor. I’ll be honest, it’s kind of exhausting juggling both at times, but I mostly love it! I lead us in planning, in prayer, in our meetings, and in big decisions.

● You’re stranded in space— what three items do you take with you?

As someone who’s been in space, I feel I can answer that quite confidently. My Bible, rations, and my orb. That way, I can connect to God while I wait, I have something to eat, and I can transform if needed.

● What is your favorite place you’ve visited on your journey?

I’d say Mars. It was super cool passing by it on our way. I did a project on Mars in college, but actually seeing Olympus Mons and the Valles Marineris? Priceless! It reminded me of God’s infinite power to create, even so far from Earth.

● What is your least favorite place you’ve visited on your journey?

The place where we crash-landed. I’ll stop saying anything more, but read about our journeys in C.E.’s book! You’ll understand why.

● What do you consider your greatest strengths and greatest flaws?

Does a weakness for hamburgers count? 😆

Okay, I’ll ‘fess up. I’d say my greatest strength is my confidence. Sharko wavers in indecision. Kaity is quite timid, and even Matt has some self-esteem issues. Maybe it’s knowing God’s will is with us, but confidence is never something I’ve been short on.

On the flipside, my greatest weakness could be humility. Or being a team player. The jury’s out on that one.

● Tea or coffee?

Tea all the way! I love it sweet, hot, black, or green! My abuelita (grandma) made an herbal tea that always soothed my throat if it was sore. It also tasted pretty good, too, so I have positive memories associated with tea. I’ll drink coffee too, but prefer tea.

● And, of course, the all-important question: what’s your favorite color?

Probably obvious, but red! Have you seen my sundress? :)

Yay! It was so glad to "meet" and chat with Sam for a while. And the festivities will still continue when we introduce more of the Starganauts!
